If you follow me on instagram you know I have a serious acai obsession. I could eat it every day and sometimes do.
I have it at least a few times a week either at home or at a local spot (check out my IG for my favorite places). When my obsession first began, I found the Sambazon acai powder on Vitacost, which really does last 30 servings btw, before I discovered the Sambazon acai smoothie packs at my local Whole Foods. While I would say they both have a similar flavor I like to use the smoothie packs over the powder because they are individually separated and cold already, while the powder I have to mix overnight and have it cold for my morning breakfast.
I have the acai bowl about mastered and my preferred method of blending includes: Acai Packet (run under water to break it up a little bit), 1 frozen banana, some almond milk and 1/2 cup of frozen berries. I add some water in then blend, and continue to add in water until the açaà mixture sticks to the blade of the blender. You don’t want it to be a smoothie consistency, it should be more frozen. If you add too much water you will get a smoothie – which is fine too!
There’s a reason the acai bowls that are made for you cost $10 a pop – because they take some time and elbow grease to make and are topped with tons of great healthy stuff that can be expensive. I order my toppings through Vitacost or get them at my local TJ Maxx or Marshalls – they always have great prices on tons of health foods. My favorite acai add ons are: chia seeds, hemp seeds, granola, coconut flakes and honey on top.
