If you love reading about morning routines as much as I do (obsessed) then make sure to read my work week morning routine here. Today I am covering my weekend morning routine because it is very different than how I approach the day during the week. Hope you enjoy it.
I set my alarm for 8am but sleep in if my body is feeling it so it could be 9 or 10 before I get out of bed. I like to take my time in the morning during the weekend because I don’t during the week. On these days I do drink a large glass of lemon water first upon waking up before having coffee and will have some orange slices to wake up my body. One of my favorite things to do in the morning is make myself açaà and eat it outside listening to the sounds of nature and walking around in the grass while my dog Lady hangs out on the steps. Something about this practice calms me and makes me really happy, I consider this my morning meditation.
I will wash my face with Acure face wash in the morning, and then I don’t typically wear any makeup on the weekend unless we go out. If I am shopping at the grocery store I will just wear a hat so I don’t need to get done up. I wear makeup all week long so I like to give my skin some time to breathe.
Full disclosure: I don’t do much on the weekends. My full time job is demanding and I like to use my two days off to really reconnect with what I love which is living a slow pace, eating and making healthy food, working out and being in nature. If my husband is at work I use Saturdays to get inspired by people I follow on Instagram and Youtube to help me make my grocery list for the week. Some of my favorites of late are Beachy Banana (Carly Vigers), Annie Jeffrey and Mama Eats Plants. I will go down the rabbit hole on their sites and videos, and end up planning our meals based on inspiration I get from each or all of them. Sometimes on Saturday I might meet up with my mother in law for a vegan meal, long walk or stop by our city’s Farmer’s Market but otherwise I am hanging out at home. Because we live in Florida most days are sunny so I like laying out in my backyard, listening to music/ podcasts or reading while drinking huge jars of water. I live in my bikini on weekends and it is how I feel most comfortable. Whenever I get off early from work or it’s a vacation long weekend the first thing I do is put on a bikini because I feel not as restricted in them as I do in normal clothes. I also really hate wearing a bra lol.
Sunday’s are when I shop for our groceries at the Boys Farmer’s Market and Trader Joe’s. I have my full list created from the day before and pick up everything for the week including breakfast, lunch, dinners and snacks. We try to bring our food every day for work and do not eat out for dinner frequently. I love to be prepared and organized. When I do not do this routine on a Sunday my whole week feels off and I really dislike not having food for the week because then I find myself spending a lot more money than normal picking up food on my lunch break and stopping by the store multiple times during the week for dinner. It is also much cheaper to get everything at the Farmers Market for the entire week and some random stuff at TJs – usually our total bill for the entire week is $100 – 140 and that includes all of our food for two people for the entire week which makes me extremely happy. My latest thing inspired by Mama Eats Plants is to try not to use so many little plastic bags when I shop so I bought this net cotton bag to put all my loose fruits and veggies in.
On Sundays after grocery shopping I like to prep food for the week. I cut up all the fruit that needs it, make this amazing granola and prepare whatever we are having for dinner that night. I make more involved meals on the weekend and keep our meals super simple on the weekdays, unless my husband is off and feels like making something more elaborate.
During the weekend I will do a Melissa Wood Health workout at home at some point in the morning or will go to yoga at the gym we belong to on Sundays just to move my body. Or if I am watching a documentary or catching up on Fixer Upper I will just do random exercises on my yoga mat while watching. We do not have cable and don’t watch a ton of TV during the week so on the weekend we might watch something on Netflix or HGTV. I like to read during the weekends and I watch a lot of vlogs so I am always learning something new. I said this in my last blog post, but I feel like one of the best tips I can give you is to expand your mind by listening to podcasts and watching vlogs – they introduce new theories, thoughts and ideas into your mind you might not come across in your daily life and that is how we grow.
So that covers my typical weekend morning/day routine. My weekends might sound a little lame to some, but I genuinely don’t care because nothing makes me happier and that is truly the most important part of living a great life. Years ago, I used to waste my weekends away drinking and spending money, just to be hungover and poorer whenever Monday came around. Then I would have anxiety from drinking and would be off for two days before I felt like myself again. Now I look forward to my healthy routine, being prepared and feeling my best every day. Also, having a relaxing weekend like this always sets up my week for success so I can get back into the grind of work with a positive mindset and attitude from my healthy weekend.
I hope this inspires you to lead a healthier weekend and start a routine as well, it has made all the difference for me. xx
