Today I wanted to share this super simple, nutritious and easy lunch or dinner idea using the Food for Life Ezekiel brown rice tortillas. You can find them in the frozen section at the grocery store and just thaw them out beforehand.
PIZZA RECIPE: Thaw your @foodforlifebaking brown rice tortilla, spread with marinara and add your favorite toppings. I used mushrooms + spinach, but olives would have been amazing too. Sprinkle with nutritional yeast (or vegan cheese) and broil until cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
Thoughts on Carbs: Refined carbs (white flour breads, pastas, pastries, white rice, chips, cereals and packaged goods) 🥯 are all processed to remove the bran and germ, making them devoid of the fiber, vitamins and minerals.
Choosing a complex carb like brown rice ensures you are getting the fiber, nutrients and vitamins to promote health, energy, and keep your digestion on point and things moving during the day.
I believe because of these reasons, these brown rice tortillas (or any gluten free options like millet, etc) can fit well into our day of eating lighter to denser as they are seen as alkaline in our bodies and don’t slow down our energy and digestion as say, a gluten-filled bagel would. Something to keep in mind when looking for healthy meal ideas that will fill you up, but not slow you down.
