To preface this review, my first Sakara meal delivery package was caught up during a severe weather storm and arrived almost a week late. Being the budgetista I am, I went through everything in it once it arrived and salvaged what I could, but had to throw out a few salads. I kept their dressings to reuse for future meals and thankfully I did because their dressings were a hit. The second meal plan package arrived the next day, but because I had food from the first box that had to be eaten quickly I mixed and matched the meals to what worked best for my schedule and let my husband try some of them as well so they didn’t go bad. I know, I am an amazing wife sharing my coveted Sakara. Let’s get into it…
DAY 1 // Sweet Beet + Toasted Cashew Medley with Glow Dressing. Wow. Very flavorful, loved the dressing and the salad was very filling, so much so I couldn’t eat it all in one sitting and broke it up into two small lunches. Happy with the portion sizes. This kept me full, no midday slump.
Energy Bar @4pm – Tasted good with a hint of cacao, was full of energy when I got home by 6pm and did a HIIT workout.
The Signature Burger // Was able to salvage the burger & fries, heated them up in a pan but added my own kale to wrap the burger in. This burger is really tasty and I love all of their dips/dressings, the blue cheese honestly tasted like cheese to me. Overall feelings on Day 1 // Impressed with the flavors, felt satiety and feeling energized.
DAY 2 // Superfood Breakfast Cookie with Jam. This breakfast “cookie” has more than 10 superfoods in it, is gluten free, organic and very flavorful. I have to say I am impressed with how much flavor each meal has and how filling they are. I was still having my lean green smoothie (LGS) as my first breakfast of the day, so I felt very full until 2pm from also having this cookie in addition to the LGS in the morning. Mac tried their Phuket Bowl & Curry for lunch and said it was “excellent”.
Penne a la Vodka for lunch @2pm: This meal is supposed to be for dinner but Im trying to eat things before they turn bad and get more bang for my buck. Wow. This meal is so yummy and I love the kale “parmesan” cheese topping. They really shine with their dips, dressings and toppings. I did get tired after this meal, which is why I don’t eat heavy meals at lunch, so lesson learned. Overall feelings on Day 2 // Impressed with the flavor and satiety, but reminded why I eat light to dense.
Day 3 // Started my day with the LGS and had the Sakara Macro Bowl for lunch today, not much flavor but was filling. I really enjoyed the sticky date parfait which I had mid-day, I could eat this every day. For dinner I had the Butternut Squash Soup and Tahini rolls which were grounding and hit the spot. Overall feelings on Day 3 // Not impressed with the bowl, but I do like eating more greens at lunch. the parfait made up for the Macro Bowl and I enjoyed my dinner as I love soup.
Day 4 // Stretched the meals into 4 days. I like to mix and match things (outfits and food) so today I used the Sakara strawberry granola on top of my DIY Acai bowl – I enjoyed it and it was very filling. After lunch I had the Roasted Tarlett breakfast as my snack in the afternoon and I LOVED it because it is a raw fruity dessert and you know how much I love fruit. Lots of fruit today and I am feeling energized.
OVERALL IMPRESSION // There is no denying these meals are tasty so they have flavor which can be lacking with other plantbased meal delivery services; there was only one salad I wasn’t crazy about but overall I would say they tasted great. I love that all of the meals are organic, gluten free, nutritious and filling – you know that in each meal you are getting all the nutrients your body needs. They send their Sakara detox tea with each delivery, which I really enjoyed the flavor of as I am a big Roobios fan. The dressings, dips and breakfast options were my personal favorites, along with the pasta dishes because I love “cheesy” meals. My husband rates the Sakara meals he tried an 8/10 which is pretty shocking as he is a hard critic, especially with plantbased food. The convenience of the meals is also quite nice when you have a really busy work day and just want to warm up your meal so I did like that part of it as well.
What I Learned // Theses meals inspired me to get more creative in the kitchen with the ingredients I use, to make some raw desserts and experiment more with salad dressings. I also learned I feel my best eating light to dense and have the most energy when I eat this way so for me the breakfast option isn’t necessary or I would have them as my mid-day snack instead.
The COST FACTOR // You know I’m frugal AF so I can’t ignore that the meals are expensive. The best hack I could figure out was to order the Meal Plan with Lunch and Dinner for 3 days + my promo code XOPBNP for 20% OFF = $143 a week, so $48 a day / $24 a meal. The lunches and dinners are very filling and you could probably stretch them into more meals than just 3 days.
If that’s not in your budget you can also use the 20% off code on their Clean Boutique items which includes: Sakara protein powder, detox tea, chocolates, energy bars and the granola. I love gifting these items to my friends after they have a baby to help ensure they are getting nutritious plantbased food that is easy to grab when they just gave birth.
PROMO CODE // Shop this link and then apply promo code XOPBNP to your order. As a note, you have to use the link + apply the code for it to work.
